Sunday Igboho Launches Iru Ekun Security Outfit in Ogun, Promises Structured Security Operations

Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, on Wednesday inaugurated the Ogun State chapter of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-based security outfit established to support efforts against crime and insecurity across the South-West.

The launch attracted hundreds of supporters and volunteers, with participants gathering in large numbers for the formal unveiling of the security initiative. The development marks the latest expansion of the outfit, which has been introduced in several states within the region.

Addressing the gathering, Igboho emphasised discipline, professionalism and accountability as key principles that would guide the operations of the organisation. He urged members to uphold high standards of conduct and avoid actions capable of undermining the credibility of the outfit.

He disclosed that recruits would undergo training before deployment and would be issued official identification cards to ensure proper recognition and coordination during operations.

Igboho said the initiative was conceived as a grassroots response to growing security concerns, including kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities affecting communities in the South-West. According to him, the outfit is expected to complement existing security agencies through intelligence gathering, surveillance and community engagement.

He also revealed that arrangements were being made to support the welfare of members, noting that discussions on allowances and operational support were part of efforts to build a sustainable security structure.

The activist expressed optimism that the network would evolve into a well-organised institution capable of contributing meaningfully to public safety, citing the growth of other community-driven security organisations that later gained wider recognition.

Iru Ekun, a Yoruba phrase meaning “Leopard’s Tail,” was established as a regional security initiative focused on strengthening community protection and enhancing collaboration in the fight against crime. The Ogun chapter is expected to deepen the outfit’s presence in the South-West as it continues its regional expansion.
