Sunday Igboho Offers Private Security Personnel to Guard Oyo Public Schools Following Abductions

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has reached out to the Oyo State Government with an offer to deploy personnel from his private security firm to safeguard public schools across the state.

The proposal comes exactly 24 days after a wave of coordinated attacks in the Oriire Local Government Area, where gunmen abducted several pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School; and L.A. Primary School, Esiele on May 15, 2026. The mass abduction has since heightened regional anxieties regarding the safety of learning environments.

In a formal letter dated June 9, 2026, and addressed to the Commissioner for Education with a copy forwarded to Governor Seyi Makinde Igboho requested a comprehensive directory of public schools and their locations to facilitate a rapid security deployment.

Private Guard Deployment Scheme Proposed

The security strategy was drafted by Igboho’s firm, Iru Ekun Private Security Limited. Jointly signed by the activist and the firm’s legal adviser, Junaid Sanusi, the correspondence outlines a collaborative framework aimed at protecting vulnerable school zones.

Key elements of the proposed security intervention include:

Stationary Personnel:Deploying a minimum of two trained security guards to every public school in Oyo State.

Access Monitoring: Mandating guards to secure school perimeters, monitor entry points, and coordinate directly with school principals and community vigilante networks.

Infrastructure Upgrades: Advising the Oyo State Government to construct perimeter fencing around all public educational facilities to enhance monitoring and restrict unauthorized access.

The private security firm emphasized that time is of the essence, warning that every day left without preventive deployments leaves students and instructors exposed to avoidable security risks.

While acknowledging the ongoing efforts of the Oyo State Government and federal security forces to safely rescue the victims of the May 15 kidnappings, the organization maintained that aggressive, preventative measures are necessary to rebuild public confidence in the state’s educational system.

The firm reaffirmed its readiness to partner with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and local communities to implement the protective measures.
