Suspect Arrested Over Attack on Osun Speaker Confesses to Being Hired by APC Candidate

Security operatives in Osun State have arrested a armed suspect in connection with an attack involving the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being hired by Francis Eniade, the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate for the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo-Otin Federal Constituency.

The suspect, who was apprehended wearing a police uniform and carrying a firearm, admitted in video-recorded interrogation footage to bringing the weapon from Lagos State and firing it twice during the incident.

According to his statement, the suspect claimed he was hired to provide security and accompanied Eniade to the scene. He stated that he discharged his weapon twice after believing that occupants of a passing black SUV posed a threat to their group.

When questioned about his uniform and authority, the suspect denied being an official police officer, claiming instead to belong to an organization he referred to as “NFS.”

The arrest follows a formal petition submitted by Speaker Egbedun to Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu regarding alleged threats to his life and safety involving political opponents ahead of upcoming elections in the state. Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Egbedun stated that the legal step was aimed at ensuring public safety, enforcing the law, and preserving democratic order in Osun State.

Law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, the origin of the firearm, and the alleged involvement of key political figures named in the confession.
