Taraba PDP Chairman dismisses defections, vows strong 2027
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Taraba State, Bitrus Obidah, has dismissed concerns over recent defections to the All Progressives Congress, expressing confidence that the party will remain a dominant political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists in Jalingo on Monday, Bitrus Obidah said the party remains strong, united and firmly positioned to retain its political relevance in the state.
He rejected reports of internal divisions within the party, insisting that the PDP in Taraba operates under a single, duly elected leadership with a valid tenure.
Bitrus Obidah noted that the party has maintained a solid political structure since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, with established presence across all 16 local government areas in the state.
Addressing the wave of defections, he revealed that some individuals who left for the APC are already reconsidering their decisions and are making moves to return.
The Taraba PDP defections 2027 narrative, he said, does not reflect the reality within the party.
He added that the PDP remains open to welcoming back former members willing to contribute to strengthening its base.
Bitrus Obidah also assured supporters of a transparent and fair process in the selection of candidates for future elections, stressing that aspirants must build genuine grassroots support rather than rely on imposed candidacies.
He disclosed that reconciliation efforts are ongoing at the national level of the party to resolve disputes and restore unity across its structures.
The chairman expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge stronger from the process and remain well prepared for the contests leading to the 2027 general elections.
