Terror fight is national duty, not just military task – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has praised Nigeria’s security personnel for their bravery and sacrifices in the battle against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other threats across the country.
In a message posted on his X handle on Monday, the president described troops serving on the front lines as a shield protecting innocent citizens and preserving the nation’s peace and stability.
He acknowledged the difficult conditions under which security operatives work, noting that they serve in forests, on roads, at forward bases, in the air, in creeks, and across challenging terrains to safeguard the country.
Tinubu stated that the fight has not been easy and has come with pain, pressure, and sacrifice, but their courage has remained firm. He said their service is acknowledged, their sacrifice honoured, and that the country does not take them for granted.
The president extended his appreciation beyond the military to officers of the police, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, intelligence services, local security formations, and others working to keep the nation secure.
He also paid tribute to families of security personnel, recognising the emotional burden of long deployments and anxious nights. He honoured those who lost their lives in the line of duty, saying their courage lives on in rescued communities and protected families.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information, adding that the fight against terror is not only a military operation but a national duty.
Reaffirming the country’s determination to overcome insecurity, the president declared that Nigeria will not surrender to fear, nor allow terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, or violent extremists to define the nation’s identity.
He concluded by thanking troops and security personnel for their vigilance and service, while praying for their safety as they continue to defend the nation.
