Three Killed, Houses Razed as Bandits Attack Niger State Community
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed an attack by armed bandits on Pissa village in the Borgu Local Government Area, which resulted in the deaths of three residents and the destruction of several homes.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the insurgents invaded the community at approximately 9:00 am on Saturday, setting multiple houses ablaze during the raid. Military personnel deployed to the zone swiftly responded to the scene and engaged the attackers, though official details regarding casualties on the side of the bandits remain preliminary.
“The report received indicated that suspected bandits invaded Pissa village in Borgu LGA,” Abiodun stated. “Three persons were reportedly killed during the attack, and some houses were set ablaze. However, the military responded and engaged the terrorists, but further details are still sketchy.”
The violent incursion follows days of heightened tension in the state. Earlier in the week, panic gripped the state capital of Minna after unverified rumors of an imminent terrorist invasion spread across the city. The scare prompted parents to flood school administrators with inquiries and led hundreds of students to abruptly flee their classrooms before closing hours.
While state authorities and law enforcement heavily managed that situation visiting local institutions to reassure the public and dismissing the Minna rumors as false the latest deadly incident in Borgu underlines the volatile security landscape persistent in parts of the state.
Security agencies maintain that operations are ongoing to secure the affected rural areas and prevent further displacement of residents.
