Three Killed, Two Injured as Suspected Armed Herders Attack Benue Communities

At least three persons have been killed and two others left injured following fresh attacks by suspected armed herders on the Elulu and Agadagba communities in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incidents occurred during separate raids between Friday and Saturday night.

Local sources indicate that the assailants first struck Elulu village on Friday, killing one resident, injuring another, and stealing a motorcycle. That same evening, the attackers attempted to rustle cattle in nearby Agadagba. Although local youths managed to repel the raid, one resident sustained a gunshot wound during the encounter.

The gunmen returned to Agadagba on Saturday night, opening fire on youths who tried to prevent another attempt to rustle livestock. Two individuals were killed in the attack.

Confirming the casualties, the Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area, Gabriel Adole, stated that three lives were lost across both villages, while two injured victims remain hospitalized receiving medical treatment.

Adole noted that a combined force of local security personnel and police officers has been deployed to the affected communities to restore order and prevent further violence.

The latest violence follows weeks of heightened tension in the Ohimini area following the June 24 killing of Risku Mohammed, the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.
