Tragedy in Lagos as Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Female Pedestrian

A yet-to-be-identified driver has been declared wanted by the police after allegedly knocking down a female pedestrian and fleeing the scene in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the NYSC Bus Stop along the Igando corridor. The victim, a female worshipper, was said to be on her way to a service at the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries when the accident happened.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the driver of a Mercedes-Benz C-300 sped off immediately after realising the fatal outcome of the collision.

LASTMA Confirms Incident

Confirming the development, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said its officers responded promptly to distress calls from the scene.

In a statement, the agency explained that its personnel quickly cordoned off the area to prevent secondary accidents and ensure the safety of other road users.

LASTMA described the driver’s action as reprehensible, noting that fleeing the scene after a fatal crash constitutes a serious violation of traffic regulations and civic responsibility.

“The driver’s act of flight not only compounds the gravity of the tragedy but also constitutes a flagrant violation of statutory and civic obligations incumbent upon motorists involved in traffic incidents,” the statement read.

Vehicle Recovered, Manhunt Underway

Officials later removed the vehicle from the carriageway with the assistance of police officers from the Igando Division. The Nigeria Police Force has since launched an investigation to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

LASTMA Boss Condoles Family

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olajide Bakare-Oki, expressed sadness over the incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the MFM Church community.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring traffic discipline and protecting lives on Lagos roads. He also urged motorists to exercise greater caution, obey speed limits, and always respect the rights of pedestrians.
