Troops Arrest Suspected ISWAP Informant Linked To Gubio Attack

Troops of the 149 Battalion (Motorised), working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected informant for the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in Gubio town at about 5 p.m. on July 14.
Makama, citing security sources, reported that the suspect confessed during preliminary interrogation to working as an informant for the terrorist group and allegedly admitted to leading the infiltration attack on Gubio on June 16, 2026, in which a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was killed.
The report added that the suspect is in military custody and is undergoing further investigation to identify other members of the terrorist network and uncover additional details surrounding the June attack.
According to Makama, the arrest is part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations under Operation HADIN KAI aimed at dismantling terrorist support networks by targeting informants, collaborators and logistics facilitators across the North-East.
The allegations are based on information attributed to security sources by Zagazola Makama and have not been independently verified.
