Troops Neutralize Terrorist, Foil Illegal Levy Collection in Yobe

Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, have thwarted an illegal levy collection attempt by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Yobe State, killing one fighter and recovering weapons alongside logistics supplies.

The operation, which targeted a key terrorist extortion mission, successfully cut off a suspected revenue stream meant to fund the group’s activities in the region.

According to a statement issued by Capt. Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, troops acted on actionable intelligence regarding terrorists traveling in two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles to extract forced payments from local communities.

Personnel from Forward Operating Base Bukarti, alongside the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol toward the Paya Kafiya axis, engaging the insurgents in a firefight.

“During the ensuing firefight, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was successfully engaged and immobilised, while its driver was neutralised. Unable to withstand the troops’ overwhelming combat superiority, four other terrorists abandoned the vehicle and fled into the surrounding bush with gunshot wounds,” the military statement revealed.

Subsequent exploitation operations along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis resulted in the recovery of the abandoned vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted medical supplies, and mechanical repair tools.

Military authorities emphasized that the successful ambush highlights the impact of intelligence-driven operations in dismantling illicit funding networks. Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on insurgent groups to restore lasting peace and security across the North-East.
