Trump Extends Ceasefire With Iran but Maintains Naval Blockade

United States President Donald Trump has announced an extension of the ceasefire with Iran, giving the Iranian government more time to negotiate, while keeping a US naval blockade of Iranian ports in place.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump said he would extend the truce until Iran’s leaders present a unified proposal to end the conflict. However, he also directed the US military to continue the blockade.
The extension came just hours before the ceasefire was believed to be set to expire.
Trump attributed the delay in further peace talks to internal divisions within Iran’s leadership, describing the government as “seriously fractured.”
He also noted that Pakistan’s leaders, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, had requested that the US hold off on attacking Iran to allow time for a unified Iranian proposal.
“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured… and upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our attack on the country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal,” Trump wrote.
He added that the ceasefire would remain in effect until Iran’s proposal is submitted and discussions are concluded “one way or the other.”
Meanwhile, the White House confirmed that Vice President JD Vance would not be travelling to Pakistan for what had been expected to be a second round of peace talks.
Trump said that apart from the blockade, the US military remains “in all other respects, ready and able.”
