Turkey Condemns Kwara Terror Attack, Pledges Support to Nigeria

The Republic of Türkiye has issued a strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack on the Woro and Nuku communities in Kwara State, Nigeria, expressing solidarity with the West African nation.

In an official statement released on Thursday by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Türkiye said it was “deeply saddened by the loss of lives” and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the Nigerian people. The statement reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.

The assault occurred on Tuesday evening in Kaiama Local Government Area. According to local reports, attackers on motorcycles surrounded the villages and opened fire indiscriminately, killing more than 75 people. Survivors were forced to flee their homes.

A resident, identified as Umar, described a coordinated attack where attempts to escape were met with violence. “They started shooting sporadically from all angles so nobody could escape,” he stated. Umar further reported that some individuals were gathered, bound, and executed, while others, including family members of the local traditional ruler, were abducted.

In response, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has emphasized that increased military presence will help prevent further attacks and restore calm to the affected region.
