Two Arrested for Job Racketeering Targeting Security Services Recruitment in Oyo

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken two individuals into custody in Oyo State for their alleged involvement in a job racketeering scheme.

The suspects were paraded at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan on Friday by the Oyo State NSCDC Commandant, Augustine Padonu. According to the investigation, the pair allegedly conspired to defraud job seekers by promising them guaranteed employment within the ongoing Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recruitment exercise.

Commandant Padonu stated that the suspects managed to collect a total of ₦868,500 from four victims under the guise of facilitating their recruitment. The operation was uncovered after the command’s internal screening procedures detected an attempt to manipulate the process by using the details of a legitimate applicant.

“The affected applicants are currently being treated as victims while investigations continue to unravel the full extent of the criminal network,” Padonu said. He confirmed that the suspects would be formally charged once the investigation is finalized.

Reiterating the command’s commitment to a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, the Commandant urged the public to exercise caution. He warned applicants against engaging with unauthorized individuals who claim to have the power to secure employment outside of official channels, emphasizing that all legitimate information regarding the exercise is available exclusively through the CDCFIB’s official website.
