Two arrested over ‘one-chance’ robbery in Ogun
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have taken into custody two men suspected of belonging to a one-chance robbery gang operating in the Obantoko area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, were apprehended following a distress call from members of the public on the evening of May 28, 2026.
According to police reports, the incident began when a woman and her two sisters boarded a Nissan Micra taxi painted in Ogun State colours from the Somorin area. They were heading to NNPC Kuto, where they planned to connect with another vehicle to Lagos after attending a wedding anniversary.
However, along the OLG Somorin axis, the taxi occupants allegedly changed course from the agreed destination. They reportedly became unruly and forced the three passengers out of the vehicle. Shortly after being ejected, the complainant realised her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen.
Police patrol teams attached to the Obantoko Division quickly mobilised to the scene with help from local residents. The two suspects were arrested, and the stolen phone was recovered. The swift intervention also prevented an angry mob from taking the law into its own hands.
The alleged getaway vehicle, however, managed to flee the scene.
During questioning, both suspects voluntarily admitted to the crime. Police said photographs of the suspects were taken for record purposes, and the recovered iPhone was released to the owner on bond.
