Two Suspected Cultists Arrested in Delta as Police Recover Firearm, Stolen Vehicle

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers believed to be members of a cult group. The arrests took place on March 31, 2026, during a stop-and-search operation at College Junction in Agbor.

The suspects, Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28, attempted to flee upon sighting the police patrol team but were chased down and apprehended, according to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belong to the Eiye confraternity and have been linked to several motorcycle snatching incidents in the Agbor area.

Mr. Bright stated that both suspects have confessed to the crimes and are currently in custody. The case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further investigation and prosecution.

In a separate development, police operatives in Sapele recovered a suspected stolen Toyota Sienna bus loaded with vandalised materials, including iron scraps and a gas cylinder. The recovery followed a tip-off from a resident on March 30 at about 1:30 p.m.

According to police reports, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush upon sighting the approaching patrol team. The vehicle was taken to the police station, and efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing individuals.

Reacting to the incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi John Oyeniyi, praised the operatives for their swift action. He urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies and assured that the command remains committed to tackling criminal activities across the state.

The police also called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
