Two Suspects Arrested for Major Cable Theft in Kogi State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kogi State has arrested two young men for allegedly stealing and destroying underground communication cables, described as critical national assets.
The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Habibu Muhammad and 20-year-old Bello Ismaila, were apprehended on Monday, January 20, 2026. NSCDC officers stationed at the Zariagi–Kabba junction in Lokoja caught the duo excavating and removing cables along the Zariagi–Obajana road.
According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Abdullahi Aliyu, the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and provided details about an organized criminal network. They stated they were acting on the directive of an individual named Isah, based at Kabba Junction, and that the stolen cables were sold to an accomplice known as Abuh, who reprocesses the material to manufacture plastic chairs and tables.
The NSCDC has intensified efforts to track down and arrest the named accomplices. State Commandant Aletan Olumide Ebenezer commended the officers involved for their diligence and reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance towards crimes targeting public infrastructure, warning the public to avoid criminal activities. The suspects will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation.
