U.S. and Venezuela Begin Talks to Restore Diplomatic Relations

Venezuela and the United States have opened discussions aimed at re-establishing diplomatic ties, following the recent change in Venezuela’s leadership.

The Venezuelan government announced on Friday that it has started an exploratory process with the U.S. to potentially reopen embassies in both countries. This comes after U.S. forces detained former President Nicolás Maduro earlier this month.

A U.S. official confirmed that American diplomats visited Caracas to assess conditions for a phased return of diplomatic operations. Venezuela plans to send a corresponding delegation to Washington.

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez, while criticizing the U.S. intervention, stated that Venezuela would pursue a diplomatic path forward.

In a related development, Venezuelan authorities have begun releasing some political prisoners. The move was welcomed by the U.S., which cited it as a positive step.

Separately, U.S. President Donald Trump met with oil executives, encouraging investment in Venezuela’s significant oil reserves. Industry representatives expressed caution, citing the need for stability and reforms.

Meanwhile, demonstrations took place in Caracas, with protesters calling for Maduro’s release. Maduro is currently in U.S. custody facing federal charges.
