U.S. Embassy Begins Re-interview Invitations for Valid Visa Holders

The United States Embassy in Nigeria has begun inviting holders of valid B1/B2 visas for what it calls a visa reinterview.

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, confirmed this in an exclusive interview with TheNEWS/PMNEWS on Tuesday, revealing that he is among many Nigerians asked to appear for the exercise scheduled for Thursday, September 11.

He, however, stated that he would not honour the invitation.

The development comes against the backdrop of recent changes in U.S. visa policies for Nigeria.

In July 2025, the U.S. Embassy restricted nonimmigrant visas for Nigerians to single-entry permits valid for three months, replacing the multiple-entry visas that previously lasted up to five years.

The Embassy also announced a revised visa reciprocity policy for the country.

There have also been reports of cancellations of existing visas and tighter enforcement requiring applicants to apply only from their country of residence, consistent with global U.S. State Department trends of increased scrutiny and security vetting.

The U.S. Embassy has yet to issue a public statement explaining the rationale for the reinterview invitations or whether the measure is temporary or part of a broader policy shift
