UK Launches Peacebuilding Programme in Katsina
Katsina State has inaugurated a four-year peacebuilding and climate resilience initiative supported by the United Kingdom. The programme, known as the Strengthening Peace Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG), was officially launched by Governor Dikko Radda in the state capital.
The initiative aims to address conflict prevention, promote peaceful co-existence, and strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods across Katsina, which has faced security and environmental challenges including banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and drought.
Governor Radda described the programme as a milestone in efforts to ensure peace and stability. He highlighted state interventions already in place, such as community peace dialogues and the Community Watch Corps.
The UK’s Senior Social Development Adviser, Graham Gass, reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting Nigeria, particularly in conflict prevention and climate adaptation.
SPRiNG will be implemented with several local and international organisations, including the Centre for Democracy and Development and Nextier SPD, in collaboration with traditional and religious leaders, civil society, and media.
The programme seeks to strengthen local institutions, improve trust in conflict management systems, and support inclusive development in the state.
