Veteran Producer Puffy Tee: AI Lacks the “Soul” of Human-Made Music

In a recent interview, renowned Nigerian music producer Puffy Tee has shared his perspective on the rise of artificial intelligence in the creative industry, emphasizing the irreplaceable value of human emotion in music.

Speaking with Sunday Scoop, the veteran beat maker argued that while AI tools can replicate technical patterns, they cannot capture the essential “spark” and authenticity that defines timeless art. “AI can mimic rhythms, but it can’t replicate the energy, passion and imperfections that make music feel alive,” Puffy Tee stated.

He highlighted storytelling and genuine human experience as the core of lasting music, elements he believes are beyond algorithmic creation. “It’s about connecting with listeners on a deeper level,” he explained.

Beyond the discussion on technology, Puffy Tee also addressed the global label “Afrobeats,” calling it both a useful export tool and a potential limitation. He advocated for a broader recognition of Nigeria’s diverse musical genres, from Fuji to gospel.

Looking to the future, the producer identified local infrastructure as the industry’s most pressing need. He called for greater investment in studios, distribution networks, and support systems within Nigeria to sustain the sector’s growth. “While international recognition is important, local development must come first,” he asserted.

Puffy Tee concluded that the path forward involves a balance embracing global innovation and polish without sacrificing the authentic, local energy that distinguishes Nigerian music.
