VIDEO: Obidi Ojochide Alleges Men Chase Independent Women to borrow there money

Nigerian feminist and writer Obidi Ojochide has ignited a heated online discussion after stating that many men seek relationships with independent women primarily to borrow money from them.
In a video that circulated widely on social media, Ojochide argued that financial dependency often flows from men to women in modern relationships. “You know why men always find independent women? It’s because they want to borrow their money,” she claimed, dismissing narratives that women are financially reliant on men.
She criticized what she described as irresponsible spending habits among some men, pointing to betting platforms, and accused men of applying a double standard when women express preferences in a partner. “Let me open my mouth and say, ‘I don’t need a broke man’… you see all of them go swell like puff puff,” she stated.
Ojochide emphasized that her own independence is intentional, saying she avoids partners who might become a “liability.” While acknowledging that a minority of men are generous, she maintained that borrowing is a common experience in relationships.
The video has drawn mixed reactions online, with some users agreeing with her observations about financial dynamics, while others argued her views are an unfair generalization. Critics suggested the issue reflects one’s social circle, and some defended borrowing as a normal part of supportive partnerships, provided money is repaid.
The debate continues to highlight ongoing conversations about gender, financial responsibility, and expectations in contemporary relationships.
