VIDEO: Two Dead as Commercial Bus Catches Fire in Lagos

A commercial minibus, commonly known as Korope, caught fire on Tuesday in the Ballet area of Mile 2, Lagos, resulting in two fatalities and leaving several passengers with burn injuries.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed the incident in a post on X, stating that the yellow bus was engulfed in flames and that injured survivors were receiving immediate medical attention.
A joint team of first responders, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and police personnel, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the emergency. LASTMA noted that traffic in the area was subsequently managed with minimal disruption.
This incident follows another recent bus fire last Monday on the Third Mainland Bridge near the University of Lagos Waterfront, which left six commuters injured. Preliminary investigations into that blaze pointed to a sudden mechanical failure in the vehicle’s braking system.
A video of the latest fire has been shared online by news outlets, highlighting the ongoing concerns over vehicle safety on Lagos roads.
