WAEC Dismisses Fake List of 50 Schools with Withheld Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed as fake a circulating social media document claiming that the 2026 WASSCE results for 50 secondary schools across Nigeria were withheld due to examination malpractice.

Clarifying the development via its official X handle, the council urged the public to disregard the letter, which was dated August 2, 2026, and purportedly addressed to secondary school heads by WAEC Nigeria National Office head, Dr. Amos Dangut. WAEC noted that the forged notice falsely demanded reports from targeted schools within 14 days or face further sanctions.

The fake circulation emerged shortly after WAEC announced the official release of the 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE results for school candidates. The council disclosed that out of 1,950,726 candidates who sat for the examination, 167,486 results representing 8.59 percent were withheld due to various infractions, including mobile phone use and organized cheating, with culpable supervisors and invigilators facing arrest and disciplinary action.
