Wage Demands and Transfer Valuation End Barcelona’s Interest in Victor Osimhen

Spanish giants FC Barcelona have formally ruled out a transfer move for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, citing the Nigerian forward’s substantial salary expectations and high transfer valuation as insurmountable hurdles.

The Catalan club had explored potential terms for the 27-year-old as they seek a high-profile replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who departed for Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire following the 2025/2026 season.

However, reports indicate that Osimhen’s current financial package amounting to roughly €15 million net annually, plus additional bonuses and image rights exceeds Barcelona’s strict wage framework under ongoing financial regulations. Combined with Galatasaray’s reported valuation of around €75 million, the overall cost led Barcelona executives to conclude the deal was financially unviable. Additional internal concerns regarding squad harmony and dynamic fit also contributed to the decision.

Osimhen’s prolific record remains highly sought after across Europe, following a tally of 76 goals in 133 matches at Napoli and a further 59 goals in 74 games for Galatasaray.

With Barcelona stepping back, English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as a primary suitor. Galatasaray reportedly rejected an initial €60 million bid from the London side, though negotiations are expected to continue as clubs pursue the Super Eagles forward ahead of the upcoming season.
