Wike Faction Calls Urgent PDP NEC, BoT Meeting

The political crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has escalated, with the faction loyal to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, summoning an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT).

This move is a direct response to the expulsion of Wike and other key figures during a rival national convention held in Ibadan.

The expelled members include Minister Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, who were ousted by the Umar Damagun-led faction for alleged anti-party activities.

In a notice issued by Samuel Anyanwu, who continues to act as National Secretary for the Wike-backed group, members were called to an urgent meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

The BoT is scheduled to meet at 11 a.m., followed by the NEC at 2 p.m., with the notice emphasizing that “attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed.”

This development confirms a deep schism within the opposition party, as two parallel structures now operate: one led by Damagun that has purged its rivals, and another led by Wike’s allies, which is regrouping to challenge the expulsions and determine its next move

The emergency meeting sets the stage for a major confrontation over the control and future direction of the PDP.
