Wike Refutes APC Campaign DG Lobbying Claims, Reaffirms Commitment to Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports alleging that he is lobbying to be appointed as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The denial was issued on Monday in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who described the circulating reports as entirely false. Wike clarified that he has not held discussions with any party leaders regarding membership or leadership roles within the campaign council.

Addressing the speculation, the minister stressed that securing political support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory does not require holding an official title within the campaign structure.

Wike, who is currently out of the country on vacation following a month-long series of project inspections and inaugurations, noted that his administration’s focus remains centered on delivering infrastructural developments under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that fulfilling this mandate remains his primary strategy for bolstering the president’s electoral standing in both key territories.
