Woman’s Body Found Dumped in River as Plateau Community Grapples with Second Gruesome Discovery

Residents of the Bukuru Low-cost community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State were thrown into mourning on Tuesday after the body of a woman was discovered dumped in a river in the locality.

The gruesome find was made by residents who gathered at the riverbank, with a video circulating online showing them pulling the corpse from the water.

A resident, Tina Gabriel, confirmed the incident and expressed shock over the killing. “This is terrible. We cannot believe someone would kill a person and dump their body in our river. I have never seen anything like this before,” she said.

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, condemned the act and called for justice. “The perpetrator must be caught and punished,” he said, adding that the police had been notified and an investigation was underway to identify the victim and apprehend those responsible.

According to the resident, officers arrived at the scene after residents were alerted, and the body was later taken to a mortuary for examination.

Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command’s spokesman, Alabo Alfred, for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The incident comes just over a week after a similar discovery in the Special Site area of Pankshin Local Government Area, where residents found the remains of aborted twins dumped in a polythene bag at a refuse site.

The male and female fetuses, believed to be about five months old, were discovered on Wednesday behind the residence of a commercial driver, Enman Danladi. An eyewitness said a farmer noticed a dog sniffing a bag with flies hovering around it at the dump and alerted Danladi.

“I had just returned from work when the man knocked on my door and asked me to follow him to the refuse dump behind my house,” Danladi recounted. “He told me he had been chasing away a dog that was sniffing a polythene bag. When he eventually opened it, he discovered the aborted twins and quickly came to inform me.”

Danladi said he mobilized neighbors to the scene, and the remains were later buried at the site.
