Women’s Participation in Politics Will End Men Chairing Women Affairs Committee – Borno APC Aspirant

A female aspirant for the Borno State House of Assembly has declared that increased women’s participation in politics will prevent men from occupying the position of Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs.
Yakaka Alkali, who is contesting under the All Progressives Congress for the Magumeri Local Government Area constituency, made the call on Sunday in Maiduguri while speaking on her decision to join the race.
She said three contenders, including the incumbent lawmaker seeking re-election and another male aspirant, are heading into the APC primaries.
Alkali argued that the current chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs is a man simply because of the absence of women in the Assembly.
She expressed confidence in emerging victorious, driven by what she described as passion, sincerity, and dedication to serving her people.
The aspirant also commended Governor Babagana Zulum for being a strong advocate of women’s inclusion in politics and governance, adding that she expects his support.
She noted that the APC reduced the cost of nomination and expression of interest forms from N5 million to N2.5 million for women and persons with disabilities.
Alkali, 45, further called for more education and enlightenment for women, stressing that their experiences as caregivers are crucial in shaping policies on education, security, and community development.
