Yobe Governor Commissions Fulani Grazing Settlement in Conflict Reduction Move

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, on Sunday commissioned a Fulani Rural Grazing Area (RUGA) settlement in Nguru Local Government Area, describing it as a step toward curbing violent clashes between farmers and herders.
The settlement was established by philanthropist Balarabe Abdullahi, popularly known as Balarabe DJ. It is equipped with social amenities including two-bedroom houses, a school, a shopping centre, a primary healthcare facility, potable water, electricity, and a mosque.
Governor Buni stated that the initiative would help reduce open grazing, which often leads to the destruction of farmland. He added that the modern settlement would aid in integrating pastoralists into society while improving their access to education and healthcare.
“We appreciate his contributions on behalf of the people of Nguru, Yobe State, and Nigeria,” Buni said, urging other public-spirited individuals to support similar development efforts.
The philanthropist, Alhaji Abdullahi, explained that the project was designed specifically to minimize conflicts by providing designated grazing areas for herders.
The move aligns with broader efforts across northern Nigeria. In 2025, states including Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, and Nasarawa allocated land for the National Livestock Transformation Plan (RUGA) to address farmer-herder conflicts and support livestock production.
