Yobe State Governor Signs N515.5 Billion 2026 Budget Into Law
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has formally approved the state’s 2026 appropriation bill, valued at N515.532 billion. The budget, titled “Budget of Economic Growth and Infrastructural Transformation,” was signed into law on Tuesday.
The legislation is designed to advance ongoing initiatives in critical sectors such as education, health, agriculture, infrastructure, and employment, with the stated goal of improving living standards for residents.
Governor Buni acknowledged the Yobe State House of Assembly for its review and passage of the bill, which establishes the legal foundation for executing government programs. He noted that the Assembly made a minor adjustment to the initial proposal, resulting in a slight reduction from N515.583 billion.
In the revised budget, capital expenditure accounts for N291.9 billion (62%), while recurrent services are allocated N223.6 billion (38%). The governor emphasized that implementation will be guided by accountability, transparency, and strict budgetary discipline.
He reiterated his administration’s focus on sound fiscal management, referencing recognitions from groups like the World Bank’s SIFTAS initiative and BudgIT.
The Office of the Secretary to the State Government, along with the Ministries of Budget and Planning and Finance, will oversee the budget’s execution across ministries and agencies.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon. Ciroman Buba Mashio, expressed the legislature’s commitment to maintaining a cooperative relationship with the executive branch to serve the state effectively.
