Delta State Police Command has arrested a woman, Rita Ughale, of Kokori community in Ethiope East Local Government Area, for allegedly selling her two-month-old baby boy to a couple, Osas Omijie (39) and Judith Omijie (30), for ₦1,500,000.

According to the police public relations officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspects are currently in custody, and the infant has been rescued and is safe. The police were alerted after Ughale reported that her baby was snatched during a robbery incident while she was in a tricycle on December 15, 2025.

Edafe said inconsistencies in Ughale’s statement led to further interrogation, prompting her to confess that she had sold the child. The police have launched an investigation and are working to arrest other accomplices for prosecution.

The statement added that the Divisional Police Officer, Ekpan Division, CSP Labe Joseph, mobilised operatives for a swift search and rescue operation, leading to the baby’s recovery.
