The proposed summit of opposition political parties convened by the G-100 group has been rescheduled from August 18 to August 31, 2026. The postponement aims to allow participating political parties and key stakeholders to hold broader consultations following the upcoming National Peace Summit.

The G-100 group, led by former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Salihu Lukman, is actively pushing for a unified opposition front ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The initiative seeks to bring together major political figures—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi—alongside six opposition political parties and members of the House of Representatives Minority Caucus.

In a statement released on Friday, the convener explained that holding the opposition meeting after the National Peace Summit on August 18 would yield more productive results and allow adequate time to refine proposals for political cooperation.

The G-100 highlighted that recent preliminary discussions with party leaders and lawmakers have been substantive and encouraging, demonstrating a shared recognition of the need for a structured opposition strategy. While acknowledging existing political differences among the groups, the convener noted a genuine willingness among participants to explore collaborative options to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next general election.
