1993 Will Repeat Itself; Tinubu Will Beat Kwankwaso In Kano- Commissioner

The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, will defeat the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)’s flagbearer Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano like the late MKO Abiola defeated Kano-born Bashir Tofa in the 1993 presidential elections in the state.

Muhammad Garba,  Kano State Commissioner for Information, stated this prediction, adding that history is about repeating itself in the 2023 presidential election

Mr Garba spoke at a media parley with the theme ‘Let’s Talk Nigeria’ organised by the Kaduna State League of Veteran Journalists in collaboration with The Arewa House and the Hamdala Hotel, Kaduna.

He said, “I know the former governor of the state is also going to be on the ballot but history can repeat itself again in Kano because late Moshood Abiola of the defunct SDP defeated Kano-born late Bashir Tofa of the defunct NRC during the 1993 presidential election.

“I am confident that Kano State will produce lots of votes come 2023. The votes from Nasarawa Local Government of the state alone is more than the entire votes of the South-Eastern states combined. I am confident we will deliver Kano State to APC.

“The state government will provide an enabling environment for all the candidates and anything can happen and all candidates will certainly get their share of votes depending on how the electorates perceive them.”

The commissioner said the state governor had provided an enabling environment for all regardless of tribe, ethnicity and religion, declaring that “Kano State with the highest population in northern Nigeria is the most peaceful state.”

“His Excellency wants to leave a legacy in Kano as the most peaceful state in the country,” he added.

Garba, who was a former national president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, told the veterans that the ongoing construction of 30 shops embarked upon by Ganduje’s administration was almost completed.

He said the idea behind the project was to give practicing journalists in the state financial muscles to enable them to discharge their duties efficiently.

Adeleke Calls Tribunal Ruling As “Miscarriage of Justice”, Heads For Appeal

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has vowed to appeal the judgment sacking him as governor of Osun state.

Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner of the governorship poll held on July 16.

In August 2022, Gboyega Oyetola, former Osun governor, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) petitioned the tribunal to challenge the victory of Adeleke.

Delivering judgment on Friday, two out of the three-member panel of the tribunal held that the petitioner was able to prove that there was indeed over-voting in some of the polling units.

Consequently, the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun.

Adeleke, in his reaction, described the judgement as “a miscarriage of justice” adding that it is “an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters”.

“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done,” he added.

“Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.”

He said if elected, restructuring will be the major policy of his administration, adding that the south-east will be able to attend to local issues through his “power transfer” policy.

“I am committed to power devolution and restructuring. All the south-eastern states have been yearning and have been propagating for restructuring of this country because they want to have more powers, more resources to deal with their own local affairs,” he said.

“We agree entirely and that is why it is a major policy of our government to be, if you support us and if you give us the opportunity.”

“APC had promised the same. Did they do it? They abandoned the issue of restructuring. They are a very deceitful alliance; very deceitful.

“We are committed and we mean what we say and if you give us the support, we will deliver.
