2027: Buhari’s Son joins reps race, seeks APC ticket in Katsina

Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, Yusuf expressed interest in representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Seeks Support of Party Stakeholders
In the letter addressed to party stakeholders, Yusuf said his ambition was driven by a desire to promote infrastructural and human capital development in the constituency.

“Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human capital development to the people,” he stated.

His declaration, according to allies, followed wide consultations across the constituency.

The development was also confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, who noted that the move came after engagement with key political stakeholders.

Early Endorsement from APC Leaders
The bid appears to have gained early momentum, as stakeholders of the APC in Sandamu Local Government Area had recently endorsed Yusuf as their preferred candidate.

At a high-level meeting held at the council secretariat, the chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the endorsement as a collective decision by party leaders and appointees across the constituency.

He said Yusuf’s candidacy was backed by his perceived capacity and acceptance among party stakeholders.

Support for Tinubu, Radda Reaffirmed
The meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda as the APC’s standard bearers for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, respectively.

Political Stakes Rise Ahead of 2027
Yusuf Buhari’s entry into the race signals a new layer of political interest in Katsina, particularly within the Buhari political bloc.

With early endorsements already in place, attention is expected to shift to the party’s internal selection process and how his candidacy shapes the dynamics of the 2027 elections in the state.
