2027: Lagos, Kano, Kaduna Lead As INEC Releases Voter Register

Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna States have emerged as top three regions with highest number of registered voters ahead of 2027 general elections, according to data released by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, announced that Nigeria’s national register of voters now stands at over 103 million following successful completion of commission’s three-phase registration exercise.

According to breakdown provided by electoral commission, Lagos State maintains highest voting population in country with 7,488,633 registered voters. It is closely followed by Kano State in second place with 6,570,276 voters, while Kaduna State secures third spot with 4,662,640 voters.

Rounding out remaining top ten states with largest voter populations are Katsina with 3,876,051, Rivers with 3,736,434, Oyo with 3,588,111, Delta with 3,525,988, Benue with 3,057,225, Ogun with 3,037,981, and Bauchi with 3,012,547 registered voters.

At other end of scale, Ekiti State recorded lowest number of registered voters with 1,055,708, followed closely by Bayelsa with 1,200,691. The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, sits among lowest populated voting blocs with 1,732,043 registered voters, positioned just below Yobe with 1,733,641 and Gombe with 1,768,566 registered voters.

INEC’s statistical breakdown also sheds light on demographic composition of 2027 electorate. Male voters account for 53,528,218, representing 51.75 percent of national register, while female voters number 49,900,497, accounting for 48.25 percent.

Age analysis of database reveals that voting populace is heavily dominated by middle-aged citizens. Voters aged 35 to 49 form largest demographic group with 43,265,946 voters, or 41.83 percent of total.

They are followed by voters aged 18 to 34 numbering 29,777,576, which represents 28.79 percent. Citizens aged 50 to 69 account for 22,982,900, or 22.22 percent, while those aged 70 years and above are smallest age group, with 7,402,291 voters representing 7.16 percent.

Additionally, commission captured 232,658 Persons with Disabilities across ten distinct disability categories, representing roughly 0.2 percent of entire voter register.

With figures now officially published, political parties and stakeholders are expected to pivot their mobilization strategies toward these high-density regions as countdown to 2027 polls accelerates.
