2027: Nalaraba Drops Nasarawa Governorship Bid for Senate

Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba, a member of the House of Representatives representing Awe, Keana and Doma Federal Constituency, has withdrawn from the Nasarawa State governorship race ahead of the 2027 general elections and declared interest in the Senate.

Nalaraba announced the decision during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, over the weekend, where political leaders and supporters gathered to review his political direction.

He explained that the decision followed wide consultations with party leaders, elders, and stakeholders across Nasarawa State, describing the move as one driven by political maturity and strategic consideration.

The lawmaker stated that he will now contest for the Nasarawa South Senatorial seat, noting that the decision aligns with calls from stakeholders in the zone urging him to seek representation at the upper legislative chamber.

Nalaraba added that his political structure spans across all 13 local government areas and 147 wards in the state, highlighting ongoing empowerment and community development initiatives under his leadership.

He maintained that his withdrawal from the governorship race was not influenced by fear or incapacity, but by what he described as a broader interest in effective representation.

The development reshapes early political calculations in Nasarawa ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties continue consultations and alignments across key positions.
