2027: ZLP candidate pledges to tackle insecurity and corruption if elected

The presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, Dan Nwanyanwu, has promised to confront Nigeria’s security crisis and corruption head-on if voted into office in the 2027 general election, describing both challenges as major obstacles to national development and public trust in government.

Nwanyanwu made the pledge on Saturday shortly after being elected as the party’s flagbearer at the ZLP national convention. In his address to delegates, he outlined his plans for what he called the country’s most urgent problems.

He stated that insecurity has become a serious threat to national stability and economic progress, adding that many citizens no longer feel safe in various parts of the country. He argued that no nation facing such levels of insecurity can achieve meaningful development, and that securing lives and property must come before any talk of economic growth or industrialisation.

The ZLP candidate accused successive administrations of failing to tackle the root causes of insecurity, pointing to a lack of political will as a key factor that has worsened the crisis. He assured Nigerians that his government would act decisively and responsibly.

Nwanyanwu outlined a security plan centred on strengthening intelligence gathering and improving coordination between security agencies. He promised to dismantle criminal networks involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, and to ensure that offenders face the full weight of the law. He also called for the adoption of community policing, describing it as a necessity rather than an option.

On corruption, he said the practice has robbed millions of Nigerians of opportunities and basic social services, with public funds often ending up in private pockets. He vowed to enforce anti-corruption laws strictly, promising that there would be no sacred cows under his administration.

Every allegation of corruption would be thoroughly investigated, and anyone found guilty would face justice regardless of their status or political affiliation. Recovered funds, he said, would be channelled into development projects that directly benefit the people.

Nwanyanwu also linked corruption to the country’s infrastructure deficits and poor public service delivery. He pledged to prioritise youth development, job creation, and national unity, stressing that young Nigerians deserve access to skills, technology, and an environment that allows them to thrive.

He called on citizens to move beyond ethnic and religious divisions, insisting that Nigeria’s future depends on unity and accountable leadership. He expressed confidence in the country’s enormous potential, saying that what is needed is leadership committed to the national interest above personal gain.
