Police Arraign Car dealer for Alleged Cheating, Forgery

The Police in Abuja on Tuesday arraigned a 29-year-old car dealer, Mahmoud Mayaki, in Abuja for allegedly cheating his client and forging vehicle documents.

The police charged Mayaki, a resident of Jahi, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery.
He, however, pleaded not guilty before a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court, Abuja.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Jibrin Mohammed of Aso Estate Lugbe, Abuja, reported the case at the Area Command Life Camp, Abuja, on Aug. 15.

Nwachukwu alleged that, on April 2, the complainant entrusted his Mercedes-Benz C350 2008/2009 model to the defendant to sell for him for N6,000,000.

She said that while the original car particulars were still with the complainant, the defendant forged the documents and sold the car without the consent of the owner.

Nwachukwu added that the defendant converted the money to his personal use.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of the vehicle.

Nwachukwu said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 312, 322 and 364 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Hauwa Aboki admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Aboki ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the case until Sept. 28 for substantive hearing.
