44,845 Households Affected By Flood in Yobe, SEMA Reveals

Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has revealed that a total of 44,845 households across 17 local government areas of the state were affected by flood disaster last year.

The agency noted that wanton destruction of lives and property was recorded during this period of flooding, leading to the displacement of hundreds of people in the affected communities.

It is against this backdrop that, Governor Mai Mala Buni approved immediate commencement of validation.

According to SEMA, SNELEI is a federal government intervention designed to provide support to victims of the 2022 flood disaster.

Targeting more than 24,000 prospective beneficiaries in the state, it said the support is expected to come in the form of food, livelihood support tools and crop seedlings, among others, which will be distributed directly to the victims to build their socio-economic resilience.

“The support, which is implemented by NEMA-SEMA, is predicated on the number of people affected by the 2022 flood and classified as most vulnerable.

“Validation has since commenced across the LGAs”, the Agency noted.
