80 Militants Surrender in Cross River State Under Amnesty Program

The Nigerian Army has announced the voluntary surrender of 80 militants in Cross River State as part of the state government’s amnesty initiative.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by Major Yemi Sokoya, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 13 Brigade, the surrender took place early Friday in the Atimbo Rear Area of Akpabuyo Local Government. The operation, codenamed OKWOK, led to militants from two separate camps laying down their arms.

One group, led by ThankGod Ebikotei (also known as Ayibanuagha), comprised 39 fighters, while the second, led by John Isaac (alias Akpokolo), included 41 members.

Among the items surrendered were various firearms, ammunition, magazines, speed boats, boat engines, and other military-style equipment.

Brigadier-General Paul Alimikhena, Commander of the 13 Brigade, hailed the development as a significant achievement for peace and security. He credited sustained military operations and collaboration with the Cross River State Government and other security agencies for the outcome.

The surrendered individuals have been handed over to the state’s Rapid Response Team and are currently undergoing profiling by the Department of State Services (DSS).

General Alimikhena commended Governor Bassey Otu’s administration for its dedication to peace and urged residents to continue supporting security efforts with reliable information.
