16 Sokoto NYSC Members Face Service Extension Over Misconduct
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service year of 16 corps members in Sokoto State due to various acts of misconduct. State Coordinator Alhaji Usman Yaro disclosed this during the passing-out ceremony of 2024 Batch C, Stream 2 corps members in Sokoto on Friday.
Yaro said the corps members were sanctioned for offences including abscondment, chronic absenteeism, and other violations of NYSC rules, emphasizing the scheme’s zero-tolerance policy for truancy and indiscipline. “Discipline remains a core value of the NYSC, while sanctions are necessary to maintain the scheme’s integrity and ensure compliance with regulations,” he stated.
Two corps members received the Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar Award for exceptional contributions to their host communities. Yaro commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for supporting the scheme, particularly paying state allowances to corps members, and the Sultan of Sokoto for his unwavering support.
Corps members were posted to rural communities to promote grassroots development, with medical personnel deployed to rural areas to bridge health sector gaps. Many corps members were posted to schools to strengthen education in Sokoto State. The Bank of Industry and partners supported corps members with business development training and entrepreneurship assistance.
Yaro urged outgoing corps members to utilize skills acquired through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme and remain NYSC ambassadors.
