Rivers Governor Expresses Hope for 2026, Calls for Calm Amidst Political Tensions
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has conveyed a message of optimism for the new year, stating that 2026 holds the promise of improved fortunes for Rivers State and its people.
The governor made these remarks early Thursday morning during a New Year address following a crossover service at the Government House Chapel of Everlasting Grace in Port Harcourt.
Reflecting on the past two years of his administration, Governor Fubara acknowledged the challenges faced but emphasized his government is entering the new year with renewed strength, hope, and faith. He urged residents not to be unsettled by prevailing political disputes, which he alluded to as “sounds of war.”
“We are stepping into 2026 with a very strong assurance that those who put their trust in the Lord will never be put to shame,” Fubara stated. He stressed that his approach relies on prayer and perseverance rather than conflict, adding, “The only thing we have is our knees. We will continue to pray to God.”
While admitting that some expectations from the past two years remain unmet, the governor maintained his commitment to progress and development. He reassured citizens that his administration remains focused on advancing the state’s interests.
In his address, Governor Fubara also expressed confidence in national leadership, endorsing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election. He thanked the President for his past support and pledged that Rivers State would back Tinubu’s bid in a peaceful manner.
The crossover service was attended by government officials, political leaders, clergy, and worshippers, who joined in prayers for peace and stability in the state and nation.
