Anambra Police Arrest 26-Year-Old Suspect Over Nursing Student’s Murder

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the death of 23-year-old nursing student, Miss Vivian Chilaka.

Chilaka was reportedly murdered in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on June 14, 2026. The incident had generated public concern, with the deceased’s landlord initially suspected in connection with the crime.

However, the police have now said the landlord has been exonerated following further investigation.

In a statement released on Saturday, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said Ibekwe was arrested on September 4, 2026, following what he described as credible and actionable information received by the command.

According to Ikenga, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly gained access to the building by climbing over the fence with the aid of a ladder.

The police spokesman said the suspect’s initial intention was allegedly to sexually assault the victim.

Ikenga said the suspect reportedly told investigators that a struggle ensued between him and Chilaka after he gained access to the building.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab the nursing student during the struggle, resulting in her death.

The command said the suspect had also allegedly made revelations linking him to other similar incidents within the community.

However, the police stressed that those claims remain subject to further investigation and corroboration.
Police Exonerate Deceased’s Landlord

The Anambra State Police Command also clarified that the landlord who was previously suspected in connection with Chilaka’s death has been cleared following the ongoing investigation.

The command urged members of the public to disregard the earlier suspicion against him.

Ibekwe remains in police custody as investigators continue to examine his alleged involvement in the murder and other potentially related criminal incidents.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, commended residents of Alor for their cooperation, patience and support during the investigation.

The commissioner also thanked members of the community who provided information that helped the police make the arrest.

Ama assured the public that the command would continue to pursue credible leads and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening public confidence and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are held accountable.
