Five Children Killed as Fence Collapses in Maiduguri

A tragic incident in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri, Borno State, has claimed the lives of five children after a fence collapsed on Sunday evening.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed that the accident occurred around 8 p.m. The Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, stated that six children were struck by the falling structure. Five of them, all under the age of 16, died, while one survivor is receiving treatment in the hospital.

Daso explained that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse, including whether any negligence was involved. He urged the public to adhere to proper construction standards and to monitor children closely for their safety.

This incident echoes a similar event reported in July, when heavy rainfall in Maiduguri caused eight buildings to collapse, though no lives were lost in that earlier event.
