Gombe Honours Fallen Heroes,Urges Public Role in Security

The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Jatau, has called on residents to share responsibility for peace and security, stating it cannot be left to security agencies alone.

Speaking on Thursday at the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony in Gombe, Jatau commended the military, traditional rulers, and community leaders for the state’s relative calm, calling it a result of “sacrifice, vigilance and collective responsibility.”

He urged the public to provide timely information on suspicious activities, noting that early reporting could prevent violence.

The event also featured the launching of the remembrance emblem to support veterans and families of fallen heroes. Jatau appealed for generous donations to the Nigerian Legion while urging transparency in managing the funds.

He further suggested expanding remembrance honours to include other agencies such as the Police, Civil Defence, and DSS, acknowledging their roles in modern security challenges.
