PDP Leadership Dismisses Court Ruling on Convention, Affirms Current Committee
The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared a recent Federal High Court judgment voiding the party’s November 2025 national convention as “academic” and without practical effect.
In a statement released on Friday by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT asserted that the ruling does not impact the position of the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC). It argued that the core issues of the case are already pending before the Court of Appeal.

“The Board of Trustees notes that the judgment is technically of no effect and at best, academic,” the statement read, expressing concern that the Ibadan court granted reliefs not requested by any party in the suit.
The party has taken legal steps to challenge the ruling, having filed both a Notice of Appeal and a Motion for a Stay of Execution. According to the BoT, this action renders the lower court’s judgment inactive for the time being.
“This puts the judgment… in abeyance and retains the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee… legally and firmly on the saddle,” the statement added.
Senator Wabara assured party members that there is “no cause for alarm,” emphasizing the BoT’s role as the party’s conscience and reaffirming its support for the current NWC as it works to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Federal High Court in Ibadan had earlier nullified the convention held on November 15-16, 2025, and restrained Turaki and other officials from presenting themselves as national officers.
In his reaction, Turaki aligned with the BoT’s position, describing the judgment as conflicting with existing court orders and confirming that the party’s leadership remains intact pending the appeal’s outcome.
