Kebbi Governor Launches Probe Into Abandoned Kaduna Lodge Project
Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has ordered a high-level investigation into the long-stalled Governor’s Lodge and hotel project in Kaduna State, marking a significant step toward greater accountability in public project management.
The directive, issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, establishes a committee tasked with uncovering the reasons behind the project’s years of inactivity. The initiative dates back to a former military administration and has remained dormant ever since.
The committee’s mandate is comprehensive. It will examine the project’s legal standing, determine if the contractor ever settled accounts with the state after the contract’s termination, and assess the current state of the abandoned site. Furthermore, it will investigate the causes for the contract’s revocation and the subsequent abandonment, while also verifying the total contract sums involved.
Heading the investigation is the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Birnin Kebbi. The committee includes the Special Adviser on Due Process, Surajo Bagudo; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ahmad Yarima; and the Director of Architecture and Building from the Ministry of Works. The Director, EXCO, Kabiru Wasagu, will act as Secretary.
This panel has been given a two-week deadline to complete its inquiry and submit a detailed report.
Governor Idris reinforced his administration’s stance against the waste and neglect of public resources, emphasizing that abandoned government projects must be scrutinized and resolved in the public interest.
This action highlights the state government’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and due process in its governance.
