Remi Tinubu Calls for Unity at Leadership Awards, Dedicates Honour to Women, Youth

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s First Lady, on Thursday warned against national divisions, stating that “a house divided against itself cannot stand,” as she received an award at the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards 2025 in Abuja.

Speaking before an audience that included former heads of state, governors, and top government officials, Mrs. Tinubu dedicated her recognition to women, youth, and community workers across the country. She urged Nigerians to set aside cultural and religious differences in the interest of stability and shared progress.

“The future of our nation depends on our willingness to work together across cultural and religious differences for the good of all,” she said.

The First Lady was honoured by the Leadership Newspaper board at the start of the year. She described the award not as a personal achievement but as a collective recognition.

“This award is for all those who have helped me along the way, especially women, young people and community leaders who work tirelessly every day to uplift others and ignite hope in our nation,” she added.

Mrs. Tinubu commended Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah, Chairman of Leadership Newspaper, for sustaining the vision of her late husband and founding chairman, Sam Nda-Isaiah. She said his commitment to journalism that informs and strengthens democracy continues to shape the organisation’s impact.

Among those in attendance were former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Amina Mohammed, as well as governors from Imo, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Yobe and Zamfara states. Traditional rulers and senior federal officials were also present.

The First Lady praised Dr. Amina Mohammed’s keynote address, describing it as timely and practical. She noted that the UN official’s remarks offered clarity on the choices before the nation and commended her longstanding dedication to Africa’s development.

Mrs. Tinubu said the event held personal significance and provided an opportunity to honour outstanding contributions at the start of the year. She dedicated the award to all Nigerians who remain committed to compassion and service.

“I dedicate this award to every citizen who believes that selflessness and humaneness can truly change lives,” she said, calling on citizens to work collectively toward the country they envision.
