CDHR, Nurses’ Group Hail Sowore at 55, Hail His Activism
Human rights groups have extended birthday greetings to activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, who turned 55 on Monday, praising his years of advocacy for justice and accountability.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Lagos State Branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) joined “progressive forces across Nigeria and beyond” to celebrate Mr. Sowore. The statement, signed by the branch Chairman, Comrade Adewale Ojo, described the milestone as a celebration of “courage in the face of repression, resilience in the midst of intimidation, and an unwavering commitment to the liberation of the oppressed.”
The CDHR commended Mr. Sowore’s consistent voice and firm resolve over the years, noting his role in inspiring young Nigerians to demand accountability from those in power. “Through relentless activism and fearless confrontation of injustice, you have inspired millions of Nigerian youths to awaken to their rights,” the statement read. The group declared its solidarity with his ongoing struggles and reaffirmed its own commitment to the ideals of justice and equity.
In a separate message, the Elegant Nurses Forum also congratulated Mr. Sowore, referring to him as a “foremost revolutionary leader” and the Convener of the Take It Back Movement. The forum praised his courage and consistency, stating that his sacrifices and advocacy continue to inspire professionals across the country. “Your example reminds us that true leadership is not about comfort, but about conviction and service,” the group said in a statement signed by its leadership.
Both messages concluded with prayers for his continued strength and success in the pursuit of a just and equitable Nigeria.
