Three Abducted Health Workers Rescued in Ondo, Victim Narrates Ordeal

Three health workers abducted from a primary health centre in Akure, Ondo State, have been rescued, with one of them recounting how the attackers stripped them naked, emptied their bank accounts, and abandoned them in a bush.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in the Oke Ijebu area. Omolabake Kayode, one of the victims, said the armed men arrived in a bus around 2am, barged into the facility, and forcefully dragged her and two colleagues away while other staff on duty fled.

She explained that some of her colleagues who attempted to hide in the toilets were dragged out, beaten, and had their phones seized.

According to Kayode, the abductors transported them to a bush along the Akure-Ondo expressway, where they were ordered to lie down. The bandits demanded their bank details and transferred all the money from their accounts before taking their phones and stripping them naked.

“After a while, they drove off and left us naked in the bush,” she said. “My shirt fell off, so I picked it and wore it. We were terrified for our lives.”

She added that they later walked to a correctional service facility in Olokuta and reported the incident, prompting Amotekun operatives to rescue them.

The Corps Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed that the three health workers were rescued around 4:30am on Saturday and are receiving treatment at the corps’ health facility.

Adeleye also disclosed that a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son, abducted on Friday evening from the Pelebe community along Oda Road in Akure, were similarly rescued following a confrontation with the kidnappers.
